How A Stylist Can Help You Shop Your Closet

As a stylist I am surprised at how many women ask me "What exactly do stylists do?" and many women assume it is too expensive to hire a stylist. So I thought it would be nice to share with you a recent styling session I had with my client Dana. Dana chose the Wardrobe and Style Edit, the most popular styling service I offer.  The first step is for Dana to complete a questionnaire in advance of our meeting.  The questionnaire helps me learn more about Dana's style and lifestyle. Then Dana I meet at her place and go through her closet and discuss what she wears and doesn't wear and how she puts outfits together. We briefly review the items she may want to consider parting with and I help her style some of the items with tags still on them.

Next we get to the good part-creating new updated outfits for Dana. Dana already has impeccable style and she had a ton of amazing skirts and blouses that she was not wearing often. She was looking new ways to style these fabulous pieces.  So I spent the majority of time helping Dana create new outfits with her skirts and blouses and we used jewelry, shoes, scarves, belts, and other accessories to complete the looks. Next I photographed the looks so Dana would have a lookbook to refer back to. Also by going through Dana's closet it was easy to see the items that were missing from her wardrobe and I created a shopping list of the recommended items she could add to her wardrobe. This list was customized to her budget and the brands she prefers.

So is it expensive to hire a stylist? Well with this particular service you gain about twenty fresh new outfits from your own closet, a lookbook so you can easily recreate the outfits, style tips and helpful pointers from a personal stylist, and a recommended list of specific items to add to your wardrobe. So one might argue that you are actually saving money.
